We are looking forward to the 26th Hungerford Extravaganza on Friday 14 December!
Festivities will kick off at 5pm with the parade at 7:15pm (slightly later than previously advertised) and fireworks at 8pm.
One of the highlight of Berkshire’s festive calendar is the Hungerford Extravaganza, now in it’s 26th year. Join us on Friday 14 December from 5pm for a Christmas street fair of stalls, festive food and drinks, big wheel and fairground rides and games for the little ones. The parade will start at 7:15pm from the A4 end of the High Street and fireworks can be viewed from Canal Bridge at 8pm. Entry is free.
Hungerford Christmas Lights are considered by many to be the best in the south of England, adding a sprinkle of fairy dust onto this well-loved market town, and this is a wonderful night to enjoy them.
And as BBC South Today presenter Sally Taylor MBE said when she switched on the Christmas Lights this year, ‘my father used to say Hungerford was the best place to buy something different at Christmas’
So for some late night Christmas Shopping don’t miss the famous Hungerford Arcade, Hungerford Bookshop’s popular children’s section with experienced booksellers on hand to give out advice and mince pies, mulled wine at The Naked Grape wine merchants and a traditional Extravaganza menu at the historic Tutti Pole cafe that will stay open till 9pm. Also the Hungerford Hub & Library will have a pop-up Christmas shop open until 7pm.
The Extravaganza Parade at 7pm will feature the Reading Scottish Pipe Band, Rock Choir, Father Christmas on his Magical Wheels, Mr Snowman, Mrs Polar Bear, Mr Reindeer, Hungerford Churches Together, Christmas Tree Guides, Community of Hungerford Theatre Group and Hungerford Lanterns.
This year for the first time the Extravaganza committee have organised Lantern-Making Workshops for anyone who would like to carry a lantern in the parade. The first workshop on Saturday 1 December was a huge success and there is another opportunity to make a lantern 1 – 5pm Saturday 8 December at The Croft Field Centre, Hungerford RG17 0HY. No booking necessary just drop in. Cost is £3 donation per lantern for materials.
The event is organised by Hungerford Chamber of Commerce and made possible by kind support from Greenham Trust, Hungerford Town Council and many local businesses.
